The Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (APRA) is an Africa-led, continent-wide initiative launched in 2023 with the mission to fast-track renewable energy deployment, green industrialisation, and access to affordable, reliable electricity across Africa. Comprising 10 African countries and supported by key global partners—including Denmark, Germany, Japan, the United States, UAE, IRENA, and UNOPS—APRA seeks to leverage political leadership, coordinated investment, and project facilitation to transform Africa’s energy landscape and promote sustainable economic growth.

Key targets of APRA include achieving 37 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, tripling current deployment rates, doubling energy efficiency improvements, and modernizing grids for variable renewable integration. The initiative emphasizes harmonized policy frameworks, regulatory alignment, and infrastructure investments, particularly in transmission, to ensure a seamless energy transition.
